Showtime will be airing New York Ninja on June 20

New York Ninja will premiere on Showtime Extreme on Monday, June 20 at 2am EST.
new-york-ninja-showtimeThe peaceful life of average working man, John (John Liu), is shattered by the brutal murder of his pregnant wife. Disillusioned by the police’s slow response, John takes to the streets as a sword-wielding vigilante hell bent on cleaning up New York City crime and corruption. But as his quest for justice gains notoriety, a mysterious villain known only as the Plutonium Killer sets his sights on the New York ninja. This over-the-top cult classic was recently restored thirty-five years after being abandoned during production.

Vinegar Syndrome acquired the rights to the unfinished film, which was never edited and had no script or audio elements. Kurtis Spieler (re-director and editor) spearheaded the painstaking process to bring New York Ninja to life. Brad Henderson (producer) helped coordinate voice talent. Voyag3r was brought in to write and record an original score. Great care was given to respect the integrity of the film and era. New York Ninja made its worldwide debut at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles, CA in October of 2021 and now on June 20, you can see it in the comfort of your own home.

Don’t have Showtime, sign up today! Don’t miss your chance to see this over-the-top ninja film from 1984!

New York Ninja to Premiere on Turner Classic Movies

new-york-ninja-tv-turner-classic-moviesThe long lost Ninja film New York Ninja, directed and starring John Liu (The Secret Rivals, Invincible Armor), gets its television premiere on Saturday, May 14, 2022 on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) at 2am EST. Originally filmed in 1984 but abandoned, the original camera reels sat on a pallet for decades until Vinegar Syndrome acquired the film and set out to complete the only American production John Liu undertook.

Kurtis Spieler, who lead the project, had to construct and edit a narrative from the reels. No original sound elements or script were available. Voyag3r were brought onboard to compose and record an original score and voice actors from all types of gene classics were brought in to voice the characters. Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Michael Berryman, Cynthia Rothrock, Linnea Quigley, Vince Murdocco, Matt Mitler, Leon Isaac Kennedy, Ginger Lynn and more round out the incredible achievement to bring New York Ninja to life, after almost 40 years.

John is just an average man working as a sound technician for a New York City news station, until one day his pregnant wife is brutally murdered while witnessing the kidnapping of a young woman in broad daylight. Turning to the police for help, John soon learns that the city is overrun with crime and the police are too busy to help. Dressing as a white ninja, John takes to the streets as a sword wielding vigilante hell bent on cleaning up the streets of the city he once loved by ridding it of muggers, pickpockets, rapists, and gang members. However, in John’s quest for justice, he soon finds himself the target of every criminal in the city, including a mysterious villain known only as the Plutonium Killer. Will John survive to become the hero that New York City so desperately needs?

v3-cast-ep10

Moon Knight – Some light discussion about the new series on Disney Plus. Moon Knight follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

The Never Ending Story – One of the top favorite films from the guys in Voyag3r. The NeverEnding Story is a 1984 English-language West German-American fantasy film co-written and directed by Wolfgang Petersen (in his first English-language film), and based on the 1979 novel The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. The film was produced by Bernd Eichinger and Dieter Giessler. It stars Noah Hathaway, Barret Oliver, Tami Stronach, Patricia Hayes, Sydney Bromley, Gerald McRaney and Moses Gunn, with Alan Oppenheimer providing the voices of both Falkor and Gmork (as well as other characters). The film follows a boy who happens upon a magical book that tells of a young warrior who is given the task of stopping the Nothing, a dark force, from engulfing the wonderland world of Fantasia.

Dave Mustaine has confirmed that Testament’s Steve DiGiorgio played bass on the forthcoming Megadeth album, The Sick, The Dying… and The Dead! Voyag3r are all huge fans of Steve DiGiorgio’s work in Death, Testament, Sadus and more. Voyag3r cannot wait to hear Steve DiGiorgio’s bass work on the new Megadeth album.

Perfect for your walk-man or cassette deck on your hi-fi, get the acclaimed film score to the recently released John Liu 1984/2021 ninja film, New York Ninja.

Here’s what Mondo / Deathwaltz Recording Company had to say about New York Ninja (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack):

VINEGAR SYNDROME PICTURES presents NEW YORK NINJA, a wild action-comedy originally directed by and starring John Liu and produced by legendary New York exploitation producer Arthur Schweitzer. While NINJA was shot entirely on 35mm in 1984, the project was abandoned during production, resulting in all original sound materials, scripts, and treatments missing. The rights and unedited original negative were subsequently acquired by Vinegar Syndrome, who have meticulously re-constructed and completed the film.

Although writing an entirely new script, Vinegar Syndrome’s Kurtis Spieler enlisted the talents of genre film superstars Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Michael Berryman, Cynthia Rothrock & Linnea Quigley to voice the leads, he also asked VOYAG3R to compose the soundtrack, bringing their trademark sound of gritty synths, progressive rock, and pure ’80s vibes to the table, creating a dynamic, muscular score that could have easily have been recorded in 1984.

That said, this isn’t some soft copy of a forgotten era – VOYAG3R understand that a mere pastiche wouldn’t cut the mustard here. Although loaded with authentic retro sounds straight from the ’80s, the score is very much forward-thinking and firmly planted in 2021.

New York Ninja soundtrack now Streaming

voyag3r-new-york-ninja-album-artThe acclaimed score to New York Ninja, by Voyag3r, is now streaming on all platforms. The 30-track album is the original score to the lost Ninja film, New York Ninja. Originally directed by and starring martial arts actor John Liu (The Secret Rivals, Invincible Armor) in his only American production, New York Ninja was filmed entirely on 35mm in 1984, but the project was abandoned during production resulting in all original sound materials being lost over time. 35 years later, Vinegar Syndrome acquired the original unedited camera negative and painstakingly constructed and completed the film. Enlisting the voice talents of genre favorites: Don “The Dragon” Wilson (Bloodfist, Whatever It Takes), Linnea Quigley (Return of the Living Dead, Nightmare Sisters), Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, Auntie Lee’s Meat Pies), Vince Murdocco (Night Hunter, LA Wars), Matt Mitler (The Mutilator, Battle for the Lost Planet), Leon Isaac Kennedy (Lone Wolf McQuade, Penitentiary), Ginger Lynn Allen (The Devil’s Rejects, Vice Academy), Cynthia Rothrock (China O’Brien, Martial Law) and bringing in Voyag3r to compose and record an original score Vinegar Syndrome Pictures is extremely proud to present this truly one of kind film experience. Restored in 4K from the original camera elements, New York Ninja is finally available in all of its ridiculous over-the-top glory for the first time ever after spending nearly four decades in film obscurity.
